Open Source, Grafana, and How to Get Involved: a short introduction to open source, the Grafana project, and the Champion programme.
Grafana is on a lot of screens, but far fewer people know where it came from or how to become part of it. This first talk opens our first Grafana & Friends Cagliari meetup with the basics: what open source actuallymeans in practice, how the Grafana project started and grew into the observability stack many of us usedaily, and what the Grafana Champion programme is and how people get involved in it. The aim is to give everyone in the room a shared starting point and a concrete idea of how to contribute, whether that's your first issue, your first plugin, or simply turning up to the next meetup.
Who it's for: anyone curious about observability or open source. No prior Grafana experience is assumed.Developers, SREs, platform and infrastructure engineers, students, and anyone who has used a dashboardand wondered who builds them will all find something here. If you already run Grafana in production, thisone is more context than deep dive, but stay for the conversation afterwards.

Rupesh Koushik Punna is a systems engineer at IMDEA Software Institute in Madrid, where he works oncontainer security and observability, building tooling that traces application code down to the system calls itmakes and generates least-privilege sandboxes from the result. He is currently building an open-source Grafana app plugin for vulnerability observability through Grafana's mentorship programme, and heorganises Grafana & Friends Cagliari.

Grafana & Friends is Grafana Labs' community meetup series, with local chapters run by volunteersaround the world. Meetups bring together people who use and build the open-source observability stack, Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, Tempo, Mimir and the wider ecosystem; to share what they're working on, swappractical experience, and meet others doing similar work nearby. Grafana & Friends Cagliari is the newest chapter, launching soon. Everyone is welcome, whatever yourlevel of experience.
